Published in 1982, the book tells the story of World War I through the eyes of Joey, a brave and beautiful horse. Joey is owned by a poor village farmer and is much loved by the farmer's son, Albert. Joey is sold to the cavalry when the war breaks out, and a heartbroken Albert goes in search of his beloved horse.
